THANA City
Thana, Malakand
Thana is the biggest town of the Malakand Division. The name is from Pashto word tanra, and is written with nounghuna in Pashto. it was the place of jirga, and therefore it is known as Tanra.
Its history can be dated to 3000 BC which are present at nookano ghund near mora sar. The first Aryan graveyard is also discovered here in 1964 by dr ahmed hassan dani and Dr Munawar Khan of Thana. And EX-(RTD) Judge Peshawar High Court Abdul Khaliq Khan.
The town is populated by 200,000 people of which 74,000 are registered voters.
It is a highly educated town of Pakistan where the education ratio exceeds to 98%. It is famous for its fruit farms & rice fields. The main families of thana are the yousafzais of which bazidkhail, katorkhail, babakhail, shamat khail and palao khanan are the sub castes and Gujjars of which poswal khel,chouhan khel and kathan khel are the sub castes. beside these two castes majority of the population are immigrants from other areas who do not have a well defined family structures and are mostly associated with their professions for their identity like tarqans( carpenters), ingars (smiths), zargaran (goldsmiths), and farm workers who are mistakenly called zamindars in the vernacular.
