The foundation of Tando Adam was laid by Raees Adam Khan Marri,[citation needed] Tando means "Cantonment". it means cantonment of Adam khan, now shortly it called Tando Adam. The town has a number of ancient places including shrine of Junam Shah Jati, mosques and Hindu temples. One of the oldest temples dates back to the 16th century.[citation needed] Retaining its original design, it is now the Dr. Ziaduddin Government Primary School. Tando Adam Khan is also known for its large number of hafiz-e-Quran.[citation needed] The shrine of the poet, Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai is 16 kilometers away from Tando Adam.
