There was a time when Public Schools were considered as the institutions catering for the needs of rich landlords and aristocratic hierarchy. But with the passage of time, such institutions proved their worth and have become symbols of standard education and therefore, centre of attraction for everyone. Public schools have been found producing men of very high calibre, courage and conviction. The students passing out from these schools have achieved the highest rank in all walks of life. Thus, the Public schools have, by virtue of their scientific and comprehensive system of unfolding/refining the potentialities and developing the overall personalities of students, assumed to produce men to lead who shoulder multifarious responsibilities of the nation.
It was this view that Mr. A.B Soomro, the first Commissioner of Sukkur Division thought and planned of fulfilling a long-standing need of this area and approached the Sindh Government for establishing one Public school at Sukkur.
The Sindh Government, vide their notification/letter No. OSD/ (H .E) 5 10-75 dated 1st July 1975 converted Government Comprehensive High School into Public School Sukkur appointing Mr. A.B Soomro, the then commissioner Sukkur Division, as the founder Chairman of Board of Governors. With his charismatic personality and untiring efforts, the Chairman Board of Governors, seeking co-operation from all quarters and important personalities, set this School functioning from 1st of October 1975.
The School has, physically made tremendous progress since its inception. A large number of developmental activities were undertaken. The main achievements in this regard are mentioned as under:-
New Hostel
The new hostel, of which the opening was performed by the Governor of Sindh has been constructed with the joint grant-in-aid of Federal and the Provincial Governments. This hostel, with all the allied amenities, is commodious enough for 112 Students. It has been constructed with the cost of Rs. 3. million.
Mosque
The construction of mosque became possible only after the President of Pakistan General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, visited this School on 9th April 1978 who laid the foundation stone and sanctioned the required funds.
Squash Court
The President’s second visit to this school on 29th November 1978 proved to be a great blessing for the institution. On this occasion, the President in addition to generous grant-in-aid for the new hostel, sanctioned Rs. 3 hundred thousand for the construction for Squash court. As a result, a Squash Court of international standard has been constructed.
Science Laboratory
In 1979, with the introduction of class IX, the need of Science Laboratory was felt bitterly, being Science a subject, based on experimentation, observation and conclusion. Therefore, a laboratory covering the physics, chemistry, and Biology syllabi was established under the supervision and guidance of respective science teachers with the cost of more than Rs. 75000/-
Establishment of Physics, Chemistry, Biology Laboratories
With the commencement of college section classes of XI and XII the separate labs were established. All the labs are well furnished and fully equipped in accordance to syllabus prescribed for class IX - XII and GCE O/A Level.
All steps are taken for the students’ safety measures to work in the labs.
The labs were designed and established under complete supervision and guidance of Assistant Professor Syed Zahid Hussain Shah
Auditorium
The school is proud to have a fabulous lavishly furnished and fully air-conditioned auditorium with a capacity of 1000 seats. The auditorium fulfils all the needs to be carried out encouraging the curricular and cultural pursuits. It also facilitates the other institutions to conduct their functions.
In this regard, the Government of Sindh was generous enough to provide financial assistance for the fully accomplishment of the project.
Opening of Diploma in Business Administration (DBA) Classes
The School acquired a new dimension with the opening of classes for Diploma in Business administration; the innovation brought the new orientation to the education. The credit goes to Mr. Nisar Ahmed Siddiqui, the then Commissioner of Sukkur Division and Chairman Board of Governor Public School Sukkur.
English Language Laboratory
The language laboratory was established on April 5, 1995 to raise the standard of English Language and create English writers and speakers who can write perfectly and speak with accurate pronunciation accent and intonation. It proved an excellent turning point in the academic career of the students. It is fully air-conditioned and equipped with latest autic visual aids.
Introduction to GEC O'level classes
The school was affiliated to Cambridge University for check point tests and GCE O' / A' Level Cambridge international examinations. The first batch of students took its examination in May 2004, the purpose was to facilitates the local residents get education of international standard at their home towns without paying heavy amounts elsewhere.
Construction of Cambridge Block
A separate Cambridge Block was constructed for GCE O'/ A Level students to provide them conducive, comfortable and calm atmosphere. The building is spacious, vast- open and decorated with natural beauty.
It comprises classrooms, laboratories, conference hall, students’ common room and other necessities; the project was completed in the year 2005.
The completion of project became only possible owing to tremendous efforts of Mr. Shafique Ahmed Khan, the then District Co-coordinator Officer, and Chairman Board of Governors. The financial support of Government of Sindh amounting to Rs. 15 Million is really liable to appreciation.
