History:
After a distinguished academic career at the universities of Karachi, Harvard and Paris, Bishop Anthony Lobo decided to devote his entire life to improve the quality of education in Pakistan. At a very young age he was appointed as the principal of St Lawrence’s School for Boys, Karachi and later took charge of one of the oldest and most prestigious schools in Karachi, St Patrick's High School. At last in November 1986, he founded St Michael's Convent School. It has been known as one of the best schools of Pakistan.
Organisation:
The school caters for students from all walks of life and is divided into four sections: primary, secondary, O levels and A levels sections. The primary section caters from Prep 1 to grade 5, secondary for grades 6 to 8, O levels section for grades 9 to 11, onwards to A levels (first and second year).
Teachings and Facilities:
The school's emphasis is on the promotion of quality education for O and A Level system of education to accentuate the development of talent and aptitude in an individual. It offers a blend of both scholastic and extracurricular activities which are taught under the guidance of well qualified and dedicated teachers and an experienced sports department. The admission for LN & UN start in January. For other classes it depends upon vacancies existing.
In these days of Information Technology, Computer Science is a must. Having acquired a sound base from the Primary, a student is imparted instructions in Computer Technology from the moment he enters the secondary. The fee structure of the institution is comparatively reasonable and serves as an incentive for parents who seek admission for their children. The school's policy of strict adherence to the syllabus pays its dividends as can be fathomed by the O level results in the recent past which boosts local school rankings for the school.
The yearly calendar, leaving academics aside, comprises Declamation Contest, Naat Khawani, Field Trips, Drama, Art Exhibitions amongst classes under the tutelage of the teaches to enable students to achieve their personal best.
Sports and Extracurricular Activities:
Inter-class and -house matches are held in various sports such as cricket, baseball, volleyball, football, tarlatans, throwball, netball etc. and indoor games like chess and scrabble. Students have won various trophies and championship in cricket, athletics, throwball and football.
Recently, a student Raheel Khan represented Pakistan in the yachting event at the SAF Games held in 1999. Other extracurricular activities include field trips for various classes which are organized by the school, campfires, fun and food fair. Farewell party for the outgoing O level students and the annual Sports Day of the school are more such activities conducted by the school.
In recent years, some of the students have taken an initiative to expand the school's limited base of extra-curricular activities. Students like Dj Jamil, Arvin Anoop and Muntasir Naqvi have created an Event Framework and have been holding events with the administration's assistance. Public Speaking has become particularly prominent in the school and students like Arvin Anoop have acquired accolades at the Rotaract Speak Up 2010, MUNIK 2011, All Pakistan Declamation 2011, PAF KIET Declamation 2001 etc. Intra- debating events are now being promoted. The school strongly motivates its students towards Community Service and students like Sanober Jamil have taken up leadership positions in this context e.g. Dar-ul-Sukoon, Mary Leprosy Center and SIUT.
