The Life Insurance Business in Pakistan was nationalized in March 1972. Prior to 1972, 32 Life Insurance companies were involved in the life insurance business. These companies were later merged and placed under three Beema Units named “A”, “B” and “C” Beema Units. Later, these Beema Units were merged on November 1, 1972 and State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan came into existence. The major function of State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan is to carry out Life Insurance Business; however, it is also involved in the other business activities such as investment of policyholders’ fund in Government securities, Stock market, Real Estate etc.

Govt. Islamia College of Commerce was established in 1966 as a private institution to impart commerce education up to intermediate level. It was upgraded to degree level (B. Com.) in 1970 when University of the Punjab granted affiliation to teach B. Com Classes. This institution was nationalized on 01-09-1972. It has been working under the aegis of Education Department, Government of the Punjab since its nationalization. The premises of this college spreads over an area of 50 kanals comprising Admn. Block, Academic Block, Computer Labs, Dispensary, vast play ground, lush green lawns, Principal’s lodge, servant quarters, beautiful flowerbeds and all around boundary wall. There are two separate libraries i.e Graduate Library and Post – Graduate Library, enriched with the latest editions. The institution has got prestige with the start of M. Com. Classes under world – wide renowned University of the Punjab, Lahore. The affiliation to teach M. Com. Classes was granted by the aforesaid University authorities under Semester system since 1992. At present , our M. Com. programme is temporarily suspended due to examination system which caused insufficient infrastructure to teach M.Com classes. The affiliation under new arrangement is under process. It was really an ever–memorizing time and event in the history of this college when honourable Vice – Chancellor of University of Punjab, in presence of worthy Controller of Examination and respected Principal Hailey College of Commerce awarded degrees, prizes and souvenirs to the students of M. Com. As well as B. Com. Classes on May 31, 2001. As per policy and instructions of Govt. 2nd shift classes at B.Com. are in operation with an ever increasing turn–up. Different tasks and assignments are dealt with appropriately by versatile working committees. Applicants / students are advised to contact the committee relevant to the matter concerned.
