It started off in 1994 with a mission of serving underprivileged children through quality education. READ began its journey with 25 children, a committed teacher and a shabby rented building. Pakistan, a country of vast human capital, (more than 170 million people), is ranked among the world’s lowest in term of human development indicators. A major portion of its population lives below poverty level and deprived for necessities of life. Growing unemployment and continued illiteracy have added to the sufferings. Moral degradation and frustration, especially among the youth is alarming. Government’s inability to curb the situation has become imminent. Non-governmental organizations /institutions have to come up to contribute independently or in concert with the governmental efforts, wherever possible. Fortunately, there are people, amongst the all segments of population, who feel the pain of this devastation and degradation of the society, want to contribute to bring the nation out of despair. There is a need to provide with a credible platform to mobilize these philanthropic elements, rich and poor, to contribute collectively towards a positive change. Financial charity is immediately and extensively required but is not the only panacea. Omnifarious interventions are needed to boost the moral, develop confidence, create self-esteem and inculcate a culture of sharing and caring among the elements of the society. With this broader framework in mind, Machiyara National Park Welfare Association Muzaffarabad was established in November 2012. MNPWAM is non-political, not for profit social organization.
