Gujrat گجرات is a city in Pakistan & is the capital of Gujrat District & the Gujrat Tehsil subdivision in the Punjab Province.
Location: Gujrat is situated near the Chenab River, 120 km north of Lahore. Gujrat is located between two famous rivers, the Jhelum River & the Chenab River. District Gujrat is spread over an area of 3,192 square kilometres & comprises the three tehsils of Gujrat, Kharian & Sarai Alamgir. Gujrat is an ancient city which was founded by Raja Bachhan Pal Gurjar in 460 BC.
Sites of interest: Pakistan Chowk, Gujrat Fort, Baradari & Shadiwal power stations.
Economy/Industry: Clay with which quality pottery is produced. Furniture. Export of electric fans. Service Industries. There are about 1,059 cottage level & small/medium/large scale industrial units operating in the district. Rice production and export. A town called Mangowal holds over 20 rice mills. There are many other factories engaged in manufacturing of electrical goods, electric motors, shoes & rice cleaning mills.
