MuRRee (MaLKa-E-KoHSaR)

MuRRee (MaLKa-E-KoHSaR)

Murree is a hill station and summer resort and the administrative center of Murree Tehsil, Pakistan, which is a subdivision of Rawalpindi District and includes the Murree Hills. **Since independence of Pakistan** Murree has expanded since 1947 at a rate much greater than that which its infrastructure can sustain, as has most of Pakistan due to its elite enjoying time off and accruing wealth in places like Muree. Securing water and electricity has been a constant challenge for anyone without significant wealth or influence. The jam-packed bazaar has caught fire a number of times, and the growth of tourism and a construction boom have had an adverse effect on the local natural environment. **TRIBES** The main tribe of Murree are the Abbasi, Rajas. Other tribes are the Syeds, Sheikhs, Khawajas, Kethwal Rajputs, the Dhanyals, Awans, Jasgam, Satti, Baig, Quraysh (tribe), mirza, Mengiral Rajput Jats, Kashmiri, Balti, and Barlas. **ANIMALS** Many rare animals can be found in Murree. One example is the leopard, which inhabits the neighboring Galiyat region. More common animals include the Rhesus Monkey, foxes and various species of birds. Pheasants, including the rare cheer and kalij, have occasionally been sighted. **EDUCATION** Murree has been known for its elitist educational institutions which have been attracting students from across the country since independence. Lawrence College Gora Gali, established as Lawrence Memorial Asylum in 1860 for children of serving or retired British soldiers away from tropical climate of sub-continent. It was part of chain of four such schools established across British India. Spread over an area of more than 150 acres at an altitude of 6397 feet (1950 meters) Lawrence College provides education from class one to twelve including A level and O level and is popular among Pakistani upper classes. Other colleges established during the British period for the children of British colonialist but now serving the Pakistani gentry include Saint Dynes and Convent of Jesus and Mary. Other schools established after independence include Cadet College Lower Topa, Cadet College Murree Pindi Point, Chinar Army Public School & college. **RELIGION** Islam is the main religion. However, there is also a Christian presence; churches from the British Era can be found in Murree and Nathia Gali. **Localities & Union Councils** Rawalpindi District Circle Bakote Mukeshpuri Abbottabad Ayubia Bhurban Birote Dewal Changla Gali Dunga Gali Gulehra Gali Ghora Gali Bansra Gali Jhika Gali Khaira Gali Mohra Sharif Nathia Gali Sehr Bagla Patriata Thandiani Karore Phagwari Las Kothar

I could actually visualize everything happening in front of me ! it was all so clear ! the matches tht I played for school, plays in which I acted on school day, the pangaas that I had taken, all the khunnnas, all the screaming n shouting, all the cheating I had done in the exams, all that fun...everything was right there...right in front of me ! It seems saari yaadein taazaa ho gayin…. seems like everything happened just yesterday...WISH I could go back to school...back to the LIFE in school, back to the best place in the world....if only wishes came true, I'd be the happiest person on earth !! There is soooo much to write ...so much to say, so much to express ….but words really cant express the feelings...I don't know what I am saying...I am too senti at the moment thinking about the past...makes me smile, makes me cry, make me laugh, makes me dance...its been just perfect...there's nothing I wanna change !! All the years that I spent in the school were like some roller coaster ride...wish I could do it over n over again...love u my school n will always do so...my school is something which was, which is, n which always will b close to my heart ! Beaconhouse School System Harley Street Branch Rawalpindi

61-Harley Street, Lane # 3, Rawalpindi ,
The Beaconhouse group has over 222,000 fulltime students in nine countries and is possibly the largest school network of its kind in the world. Established in November 1975 as the Les Anges Montessori Academy with 19 toddlers, Beaconhouse has since grown into an international network of private schools, imparting distinctive and meaningful learning to students all the way from birth – through its partnership in Pakistan with Gymboree Play & Music – to post-graduation, through the Beaconhouse National University in Lahore. Of these students, over 88,000 study at the group’s flagship network, the Beaconhouse School System, while the remaining are largely enrolled at The Educators, a parallel school network operated by the group with over 126,000 students. Other students are in Beaconhouse schools overseas. The Beaconhouse of today is thus much more than just a stand-alone school. Through distinct and independent divisions in the UK, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Oman, UAE, Pakistan and Bangladesh, it caters to the education and training needs of a large and diverse group of individuals of varying ages, socio-economic backgrounds, and nationalities, with its activities also extending beyond education in some countries. Beaconhouse has always laid tremendous emphasis on the development of human capital. From its initial association in the 1980s with The Moray House Institute of Education in Scotland to its more recent teaching training links with the University of Bradford and MARJON, Beaconhouse has institutionalised in-service teacher training like no other school. So, with rigorous standards that demand up-to-date teaching skills and a range of challenging programmes, the Beaconhouse School System brings success within the reach of every student.
